Stimulating - Involving - Memorable - Fun

A team-based, fast-pace construction game highly recommended for any organization seeking an innovative, creative, challenging, yet cost-effective way to promote positive team building and cooperation skills for all age and ability levels

  • Nener the same game - not boring;
  • Play with 2 to 5 teams;
  • Can be play by kids 6+ up to adult
  • Increasing levels of difficulty;
  • Play 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional games;
  • Mini-scale components to create beta models or prototypes;
  • CAD-CAM program to create computer generated designs for construction;
  • Can be set up virtually anywhere - use indoors or out - portable;
  • Can be used by team members with physical disabilities;
  • Several pre-packed kits to chose from or order parts a-la-carte
  • Challenging, yet lots of fun

SUMMARY

Each team has a fixed time frame in which to build an exact large scale structure duplicate of a mini-scale model (or computer model)

REQUIREMENTS

Space:
1. Display Room
- any size “secure”space where Mini model can be placed for “private” viewing
- if using the computer model design option, need 1 computer per team

2. Inventory Center
- controlled issuance of large scale components to team members
- need sufficient space to hold inventory for each kit (see kit parts list)

3. Team Assembly Room
- team headquarters and assembly area
- any size space to assemble the large scale components
- most full scale designs average no more than 4' x 4' x 4'

These spaces do not have to be individual rooms - but they need space adequate for the tasks

Personnel: (Adjust as needed or available)
1 supervisor/timekeeper/judge
1 inventory manager

Teams:
- each team” should have 3-4 players
- one player is designated as the “team leader” - to develop his/her leadership skills
- the more players you have the longer it takes to cycle through the process

Equipment:
1. One complete kit (MFQ, Starter, Basic, Junior, or Universal) per team. (See Kits)
2. One main Countdown Timer/Stopwatch
3. One stopwatch for each team (for 1 minute timing) - can also use the main timer
4. Option: One computer for each team (only if using 3-D program)

Rules:
1. Select a “total” time frame based on the complexity of the model and the space layout
- recommend time frame ranges from ½ hour to 3 hours
- the more complex the model, the longer the time frame
- the more spread out the activity area, the longer the time frame.

2. Create one mini-model for each team (should be identical)
- do not show to the teams in advance!!!
- each structure has to be exactly the same for each team (but you can vary the tube colors)
- place each mini model in a separate room or secure space (or computer)

Option: Create the model on the 3-D computer program (Download Program)

3. Start the countdown clock
4. Each team sends only one player at a time - in specific order (like a relay race)

Time Frame:
- each player has a time limit to complete the tasks
- for example 30 seconds of “mini-model” viewing time
- time limit does not including the inventory or assembly time
- you can change time rules as necessary to suit particular situation

First player:
- goes to the team’s Mini-model secure area
- player views the Mini model and tries to memorize as much as possible
- player identifies one specific tube, connector or accessory on the Mini-model + its color
- player goes to the inventory area and requests a “large” tube to match the Mini part he/she has identified (type of part and color)
- player returns with part to team assembly area
- starts to assemble the structure with the part they brought

Second player:
- starts only when the first player has returned with the large-scale part
- repeats the steps of first player
- add the second part to the structure “exactly” the way it is in the mini-model
Tip: best to select a part which connects directly to the part brought by previous player

Third player:
- repeats the steps of first two players
- add the third part to the structure “exactly” the way it is in the mini-model or computer model

Note: Team Leader can specify “next” connecting piece team member should view and get.

Now it starts to get into “decision” making time.

Consecutive players have to:
- select a specific part (+ exact matching color)
- then remember exactly where it fits on the mini/computer model
- then request the corresponding large scale part from inventory supply
- then bring part to the assembly area to be added it to the structure.
* Player has time limit to do this

Returns
If a player brings a wrong part from the inventory stockroom, the team has to use up one player turn to return to the stockroom and exchange the part.

Scoring:
There are a total of 100 points awarded to the project (you can also use 1000 or whatever)
- penalty points - are subtracted from the total

Example Penalties (Make your own rules)
- deduct 1 point for taking exceeding time limit for a player turn
- deduct 1 point at the end of the game for each missing part
- deduct 1 point at the end of the game for each wrong color
- deduct 1 point at the end of the game for each minute “over” the official time limit

Note: Players cannot use any writing materials to copy information - automatic disqualification

Game Time Limits:
1. Game Limit - set a specific a total game time frame which is suitable to the complexity of the design and the age/skill level of the players

2. Player Limit - each player has a specific amount of time to;
- view mini-model, and/or:
- get part from inventory, and/or
- attach the part to the large scale model
